I should be following my 3º year in Communication at the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca. But I thought it was time to take a break and enjoy the Erasmus experience.
What would it be like to have not only colour vision but culture vision, the ability to see the multiple worlds of others. M.C Bateson
Being an Erasmus student implies breaking horizons and face strange customs in a foreign country. I applied for Antwerp not because I was delighted with this town but due to the fact that this was the only choice to follow a course in English. All I knew about this place came from my history lessons, thus it is predictable that my little knowledge remained biased. Perhaps this lack of information resulted in my current view of this place, I do not want to leave from here and I even thought about moving to Belgium after finishing my studies.
I arrived in Antwerp exactly on the 19th of august; I registered for an Intensive language course in Dutch. I fooled myself considering that I could speak at least a little bit of this language, of course these were nonsense! Well, I should be glad of being able to introduce myself or ask for the time in Dutch: Hoe laat is het? These first stages of my Erasmus period involved meeting a lot of different people from a great deal of European countries, they were my partners by that time and we enjoyed our course and trips together. However the language course ended and that meant I needed to begin from the scratch. New people and lecturers, the actual Erasmus thing was just about to start.
